4.5 /5: “Lively all-rounder that offers pro bike pedigree without the premium price tag.”

Cycling Weekly editor, Dan Baines tested the new 10th generation TCR (Advanced 0) in a bike test where he scored the carbon race bike 4.5/5, boasting that Giant had successfully trickled down the best technology from the higher-end models to create a bike that offers excellent value.

When testing the TCR, Baines wrote that he regularly tackled short but steep climbs that demanded max power output. With Yorks Hill and White Lane close to home, Baines had the perfect testing ground. He claimed that broken, leaf-strewn winter roads were a tough test in typical UK conditions.

When compared to the previous generation TCR, Baines describes the new TCR as an incremental improvement, noting that a sub-8kg race bike with carbon wheels and a Di2 groupset for under £4k is rare.

Describing the TCR Advanced model, he writes “The ride is undeniably racy, and the lively handling encourages you to push on.”

From his first ride, Baines stated that it's clear that even at this price point, this TCR remains an out-and-out race bike.

“A bike so closely resembling those raced at WorldTour level will always be well-balanced, handle precisely and respond instantly to rider output.”

This TCR Advanced model delivered a direct and efficient feel according to Baines, as well as instant acceleration.

“On fast, sweeping bends, the bike inspired confidence, while in tighter, crit-style corners, it felt agile and easy to adjust-midturn.”

To summarise, Baines claimed, “The TCR felt lighter than its 7.94kg, and every ounce of energy felt like it was transferred to the road.”
